If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Relationships: that almighty mystery.
It seems that the worldwide opinion of relationships is as seasonal as the British weather.
Some people strive for it, even obsess over it, and often make the wrong decisions in the lifelong pursuit of "true love".
Others see relationships as a sham. The product of an outdated tradition that should have died long ago.
However you view relationships, not a single one of you can deny that you judge those within them.
You question "Why are they together?" "How can she be attracted to him?" "How do they even work?"
The general perceptions of other people's relationships interest me indefinitely.
Why do we feel the need to judge so harshly? I have absolutely no idea.
I assume that it varies between people...some judge out of envy, some out of insecurity and some simply due to misinformed social stereotypes. You can deny that you fit into any of these categories, but with the most respect, i bet you do. I do.

On my last beach holiday, i led happily in the sun when i heard a group of girls nearby say loudly -
"My GOD, LOOK at that fat couple!". They then proceeded to discuss how "disgusting" they were.
I couldn't understand why they seemed so upset- no, offended- by the sight of an overweight couple strolling along the beach looking blissfully happy. As with many social problems, this kind of attitude has a high probability of being born from the social conceptions of what love should look like, as painted by our local advertisers.
Type "happy couple" into Google images and you will see precisely what i'm talking about.
The majority are young and beautiful with flawless skin and perfect figures and the rest are old couples who have stood the test of time. What about the middle part?
Maybe that young happy couple got married, had three kids, ate junk food and got fat. Does that mean that they aren't in love anymore? NO. Does the loss/ absence of beauty and youth make love any less beautiful? NO. Does the love between other people of all shapes, sizes and ages actually effect you in any way at all? NO.

So, people of Earth, what is the problem?
Whether between Mr and Mrs Perfect or two people chillin' on the sofa, the love is equally valuable.
Love doesn't discriminate. Old, young, overweight, underweight or just the average Joe... we all stand the chance of finding our soul mates.
So stop letting our messed up media dictate your view of "perfect love" and let people be. Respect that love, respect those people and remember the saying - If it ain't broken, don't fix it.
